Jess Barnett has served as a copy editor, proofreader, and editor for 18 years in various fields.
Her current clients include Digitas Health, for which she is a freelance senior copy editor, as well as HCPro/Simplify Compliance, Public Consulting Group, Cognella, Relevate Health Group, Versado, the AFL-CIO, and Solomon Admissions Consulting. Having worked at HCPro, Inc., and StayWell Custom Communications, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry (Shire Pharmaceuticals, Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, and Evidera, formerly United BioSource Corporation), she considers health care, medical, and scientific publishing an area of expertise.
In addition, she has copyedited more than 35 dissertations for Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy graduate students. Outside of her copy editing work, she serves as interim treasurer for the Capital Area Recovery Community Organization in Concord, NH, and a member of the New Hampshire Treatment Task Force of the Governor’s Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs. She served as the program assistant at the NH Public Health Association from 2019 to 2021 and received the NHPHA President’s Award in April 2021.

Julia Perch has served as a copy editor, medical proofreader, and managing editor for 14 years in various fields.
Julia’s editorial career began as an undergraduate at Drexel University, where she served as the chief copy editor and staff writer for The Triangle, Drexel’s student newspaper, and
developed an expertise in AP style. For several years, she interned with the Drexel Publishing Group, including Painted Bride Quarterly, an esteemed literary magazine currently housed at Drexel. During this time, she helped develop a social media following for Drexel’s literary organizations as well as writing and editing content for in-house events and blog posts.
After graduation, she worked in academic editing, helping faculty members edit and prepare manuscripts for publication and becoming an expert in CMOS and APA style. Subsequently, she spent seven years working as a medical proofreader and project manager in the test development industry alongside specialized physicians, where she became an expert in AMA style, exam creation and development, and test
question-writing.
Julia applied her medical proofreading knowledge to her current career as managing copy editor at Digitas Health, a pharmaceutical advertising agency, where she serves as the lead editor for several major pharmaceutical brands and manages a small team of editors.
As an experienced writer, Julia views all of her editing projects from the perspective of both a writer and an editor. She knows how to write and edit for various audiences and in a number of styles. In addition to medical and academic editing, Julia is skilled at editing creative content, including fiction and personal essays; she also specializes in creating and editing resumes and cover letters. Julia has a particular affinity for editing content written by individuals who speak English as a second language. She is also an expert in queer competence, and is conscientious of classism, racism, sexism, and ableism in the work she writes, reviews, and edits.
